Why this order?

The live-action Star Wars shows arrived fast once Disney+ launched, and they do not unfold in a tidy line. We give you two ways through them so you can pick the path that fits how you like your stories told.

The default watch order is simply release order, and for these series that is genuinely the best first-time path. The Mandalorian kicked off the era in 2019 and set the tone, and the shows that follow were written assuming you had seen what came before. Ahsoka in particular pays off threads from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, so watching as they aired keeps every reveal landing the way the writers intended. Andor is the outlier: a grounded spy thriller that works as a standalone entry point, but it still slots cleanly into release order.

The chronological order rearranges everything by in-universe timeline. The Acolyte sits furthest back, around 132 years before the films, at the tail end of the High Republic. Next come the two shows set between the prequel and original trilogies: Obi-Wan Kenobi first, roughly 9 years before the Battle of Yavin, then Andor, which begins about 5 years before it and runs right up to the events of Rogue One. After that, everything jumps past Return of the Jedi into the interconnected stretch fans call the Mandoverse: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett (whose story actually overlaps the Mandalorian's later seasons rather than following cleanly after), Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew, all of which cross over freely.

One gotcha worth flagging: the animated series The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch are deeply connected to this universe, and Ahsoka especially rewards having seen Rebels, but they are a separate medium and a separate page. The Star Wars films are also covered separately.

Frequently asked questions

What order should I watch the Star Wars shows in?

For a first watch, go in release order starting with The Mandalorian (2019), then The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew. The later shows assume you have seen the earlier ones, so release order keeps every callback and reveal intact.

How many live-action Star Wars shows are there?

There are seven live-action Star Wars series on Disney+ as of early 2026: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew. More are in development, including a Mandalorian feature film.

What is the in-universe chronological order?

By timeline it goes The Acolyte (High Republic, ~132 BBY), then Obi-Wan Kenobi (~9 BBY) and Andor (~5-1 BBY) between the prequel and original trilogies, then The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew, all set after Return of the Jedi.

Can I start with Andor?

Yes. Andor is a self-contained spy thriller that does not rely on the other shows, so it works as a standalone entry point and is many fans' favorite. You will get a bit more from it having seen the film Rogue One, which it leads directly into.

Do I need to watch the animated shows first?

Not required, but they help. The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch are deeply connected, and Ahsoka in particular rewards having seen Rebels. They are animated and covered on a separate page.

What is the Mandoverse?

It is the fan nickname for the cluster of post-Return of the Jedi live-action shows that share characters and storylines: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew, building toward The Mandalorian & Grogu film.
