Why this order?

The Star Wars Jedi series is wonderfully simple to approach: there are only two games, and both release order and story order are identical. Start with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019), then move on to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023). Survivor is a direct sequel that picks up roughly five years after the first game, so playing them in any other order would spoil major beats and leave you confused about who the surviving cast members are and why they matter.

The release order is the one we recommend by default, and it doubles as the chronological order. Both games follow Padawan-turned-Jedi-Knight Cal Kestis during the dark years of the Galactic Empire, slotting neatly between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope — the same Imperial-purge era explored in Rebels, Andor, and the original Star Wars Jedi: Knight games (no relation to this newer Respawn saga, despite the shared "Jedi" name).

The only real gotcha is the title confusion. Older LucasArts games like Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Dark Forces also use "Jedi" in their names but are entirely separate from this Respawn-developed, EA-published series. If someone hands you "the Jedi games," make sure you're getting Cal Kestis and his droid BD-1, not Kyle Katarn.

A third entry is reportedly in development at Respawn to complete a planned trilogy, though it has not yet been released or formally dated as of early 2026. When it arrives it will almost certainly continue Cal's story directly, so the play-in-release-order rule should hold. For now, two games, played front to back, is all you need.

Frequently asked questions

How many Star Wars Jedi games are there?

Two so far: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023). A third game is reportedly in development at Respawn to complete the trilogy, but it hasn't been released as of early 2026.

What order should I play Star Wars Jedi in?

Play Fallen Order first, then Survivor. Release order and story order are the same, and Survivor is a direct sequel, so playing them in this order avoids spoilers.

Is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a sequel to Fallen Order?

Yes. Survivor picks up about five years after Fallen Order and continues Cal Kestis's story directly, with the same core cast including the droid BD-1.

Do I need to play Fallen Order before Survivor?

It's strongly recommended. Survivor assumes you know the characters and events of Fallen Order, so starting with the first game gives the story far more weight.

When does the Star Wars Jedi series take place?

Between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, during the Galactic Empire's purge of surviving Jedi — the same era as Rebels and Andor.

Are these the same as the old Jedi Knight games?

No. The classic LucasArts Jedi Knight and Jedi Academy games are a separate, unrelated series. The modern Star Wars Jedi games are developed by Respawn and follow Cal Kestis.
