Why this order?
The Baki timeline is one straight line, but Netflix hides its first chapter. Baki the Grappler (2001, 48 episodes including the Maximum Tournament arc) is where the story actually starts: Baki's childhood, his mother, and why Yujiro Hanma is the most feared creature alive. It has never streamed on Netflix, living instead on DVD and the occasional other service, so most newcomers start at Baki (2018) without realizing it is a direct sequel, not a remake; the show simply assumes you know how Baki got here. If you can find the 2001 series, watch it first (the 1994 OVA before it is a skippable curiosity). If you cannot, the Netflix-only shortcut works, you just meet the series mid-stride.
