Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss Watch Order

Why this order?

Two shows, one Hell, and almost no homework. Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss share a setting that Prime Video now markets as the Hellaverse, but they were built as separate stories with separate casts, and neither one requires the other. The short answer is that you can start with either, and if you want a default, start with Hazbin Hotel Season 1 and treat Helluva Boss as a parallel show you can pick up any time. Everything below exists because the release history is genuinely messy, not because the plot is.

The first thing that trips people up is that the spin-off got its series first. Vivienne Medrano posted the Hazbin Hotel pilot to YouTube on October 28, 2019 and the Helluva Boss pilot on November 25, 2019, roughly a month apart. Helluva Boss then became a full YouTube series on October 31, 2020 and ran two complete seasons before Hazbin Hotel's series even premiered: Hazbin Season 1 arrived on Prime Video on January 19, 2024, more than three years after its own spin-off started airing. So "watch the original first" does not mean here what it usually means. Release order and franchise logic point in opposite directions, and because the shows barely intersect, neither answer is wrong.

The pilots are where the real ordering decision lives, and the two shows give opposite answers. Medrano has been blunt about Helluva Boss: in November 2023 she wrote that "the pilot is pretty obviously not functionally canon? ... Anyway it's not canon." That 11-minute 2019 upload is still on YouTube with more than 60 million views, but it is a mockumentary with a different structure, different jokes and a voice cast that changed afterwards. Amazon paid to redo it. "Mission: Zero", a canon remake of the same premise, premiered on Prime Video on September 10, 2025 and reached YouTube on October 25, 2025, and that is where a newcomer should begin Helluva Boss. The Hazbin Hotel pilot, "That's Entertainment", is the opposite case: its events are still treated as having happened, but the series recast nearly everyone and revised the designs and the lore, and Season 1's opener re-establishes the premise rather than recapping it. Watching it first is not wrong, it is just the roughest 31 minutes in the franchise, and fans argue about how much of it still counts. We list both pilots at the end of the recommended order as optional context.

One more trap is the one people post screenshots of. Helluva Boss Season 1 Episode 8, "Queen Bee", did not go up until June 24, 2023, by which point four Season 2 episodes were already out. It was held back for well over a year and landed a month after Season 2's "Western Energy". Watch it where the numbering puts it, at the end of Season 1, and ignore the upload dates.

Then there is where to actually watch, which changed twice in a year and is why older guides are now wrong. Helluva Boss spent five years free on YouTube. On September 10, 2025 uncensored cuts of Seasons 1 and 2 arrived on Prime Video while the original YouTube uploads stayed up, so both seasons are still free. Seasons 3 and 4 are the break: they premiere on Prime Video and reach YouTube 45 days later. Mission: Zero already ran that pattern to the day, September 10 to October 25. Season 3 Part 1, reported as seven of the season's 15 episodes, is set for October 14, 2026 on Prime Video, with Part 2 in 2027, which would put the free YouTube release around late November 2026 if the 45-day window holds. Hazbin Hotel has been Prime Video only since 2024, apart from its pilot and a brief free YouTube posting of the first episode a day before launch, which is why some sites date the premiere to January 18 rather than the 19th.

Finally, the crossover question, because it is the single most confused thing about these shows. No crossover episode has aired, and nothing in either series currently depends on the other. One is coming, though, so do not let anyone tell you otherwise: Amazon confirmed the shared universe publicly in April 2025 with an announcement short that put Hazbin's Charlie and Helluva's Blitzo on screen together for the first time, Brandon Rogers has said he recorded opposite Hazbin characters and has read a script, and in October 2025 Medrano said "there will be crossover elements" while the team is still "figuring out what it looks like". No timing has been announced, and Hazbin Season 2 came and went in November 2025 without one. So it is real, it is unscheduled, and it changes nothing about the order today. Treat them as two parallel shows that happen to share a Hell. On how much is left: Medrano has called Helluva Boss "a very set 4 season story", Prime Video ordered Seasons 3 and 4 together, and Season 4 is expected to close it out. Hazbin Hotel was renewed in April 2026 through a fifth and final season, though Season 3 still has no premiere date as of August 2026. The Helluva Shorts, a run of YouTube one-offs that began April 26, 2024, are pure bonus and safe to skip.
