Fallout (Amazon) Watch Order and Game Timeline

Why this order?

The watch order for Amazon's Fallout is refreshingly simple: Season 1 (2024), then Season 2 (2025 into 2026). Season 1 dropped all eight episodes at once on April 10, 2024, so there is no volume split to worry about. Season 2 premiered December 16, 2025 and ran weekly through its February 3, 2026 finale, moving the story out of the California wasteland and into the Mojave toward New Vegas. Watch them in release order and you are done. The real questions people have are about continuity, not episode sequence.

The first thing to know is that the show is canon. Bethesda's Todd Howard confirmed it sits inside the official Fallout timeline, set in the year 2296. That is about 219 years after the Great War of 2077 and roughly nine years after Fallout 4 (2287), which makes the series the single latest point on the entire Fallout timeline. Nothing in the games happens after it. So if you are trying to slot the show into a chronological playthrough, it goes at the very end, after every mainline game.

The second question is whether you need to play the games first. You do not. Howard has said so directly, and Season 1 was built to work cold for newcomers, following Vault 33 dweller Lucy MacLean, Brotherhood squire Maximus, and the centuries-old bounty hunter Cooper Howard (the Ghoul). That said, the show is a deep-cut love letter. Vault-Tec's pre-war conspiracy, the fall of Shady Sands and the New California Republic, and Season 2's arrival in New Vegas (with Robert House on the board) all land harder if you know the games.
